For the first time in the team history, UNLV has closed a season at #5 in the ACHA West. Although, they have spent brief stints at this ranking before, this is the only time that they've closed out the final ranking period low enough to take a top 4 seed into regionals. This achievement also marks the third straight year of improvement for the Rebels.

New Website

After much delay and anticipation, the new UNLV Rebel Hockey club website has launched. Although the website is not 100% complete ("coming soon" pieces) and a lot still remains to be done, the core of the site is finished and open to the public.

Regionals Matchup - #5 UNLV vs. #6 SDSU

When traveling to Logan, UT for the regional west playoffs, the UNLV Rebels will face their rivals, San Diego State University. The event will mark the first playoff meeting between the clubs and the fifth meeting for the 2010/11 season. UNLV leads the season series 3-1-0 (Home: 2-0, Away: 1-1). The Rebels only loss came in an exciting bout that ended 4-3 in Aztec favor on their ice late last month. Game times are still TBD.

Rebel Hockey Headlines

Here is a quick recap of the recent events for the Rebel Hockey Club.

- The Rebels rank #8 in the West Divison of ACHA Men's D2.

- UNLV drops it's fourth straight and first two home games to a strong #3 ASU team. 3-1 and 7-1. 

- Rob Pallin has stepped down as head coach of the Rebels to pursue an Asst. Head Coach position with the Las Vegas Wranglers ECHL team. A complete write up of Rob's UNLV coaching career was done by vegashockey.com and is available here. We wish Rob the best and appreciate his dedication to the team over the years!

- A new coaching staff has been hired, an announcement is pending.

- UNLV has another batch of home games this weekend (18th and 19th). They will faceoff against a strong Central Michigan opponent. CMU comes in ranked #6 in the Central Division of the ACHA Men's D2. Their record is 9-5-1 (3-2-0 on the road) and should prove as an entertaining opponent to the Rebels.
